A human trafficking investigation near Pittsburgh has led to an Olean, N.Y., man facing criminal charges. The man, John D. Carter, has been charged with attempted patronizing a victim of sexual servitude, attempted involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and unlawful contact with a minor, first-degree felonies, and criminal use of a communication facility.
The investigation was conducted by The Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General, and Robinson Township Police. According to The Bradford Era, “Carter ‘agreed to pay a minor for sex knowing they were a victim of human trafficking,’”. One agent working undercover on a social networking application also received a message from Carter, who stated that he was “hoping to have some fun”. Carter believed that he was messaging a 22-year-old man at the time.
The special agent, who was undercover as the 22-year-old man, told Carter that he was also traveling with a 15-year-old boy. Over text message, Carter agreed to pay $100 in exchange for sexual activities with both the 15-year-old and 22-year-old.
Carter then unknowingly set up a meeting time and location with the undercover agent. Shortly after the meeting place was set up, Carter arrived at the location, and was arrested without incident.
