The Project Mona’s House FreeTHEM Fighters High School Ambassador Program will gather students from across Western New York together to create a team dedicated to:

  • Learning more about human trafficking, freedom, social determinants of health, and intersectional social justice issues.

  • Empowering peers to get involved, volunteer, want to learn more, understand their own experiences, and stay safe.

  • Spreading the word about Project Mona’s House through in-person and social media campaigns.

Eligibility

The ideal FreeTHEM Fighter is a student with vision, motivation, grit, & unique perspectives.

All FreeTHEM Fighters must come from a high school or homeschool program in the Western New York area, be in grades 9-12, and go through our application process.

They must remain in good academic standing at their home institution and maintain at least a 2.75 GPA (80 average, B-) while participating in the program.

What will you be doing?

Education, Speakers, & Workshops

At each Saturday meeting, students will explore different topics related to human trafficking, social justice, human rights, etc.

Some meetings will feature expert guest speakers to expose students to the real-world implications of what they are learning.

Students will engage in workshops in public speaking, advocacy, and leadership.

FreeTHEM Fighters Week of Service and Learning

FreeThem Fighters will engage in an exciting and engaging week of volunteer opportunities, excursions, team-building, and learning during their spring break week.

Volunteer Opportunities

Students will have a variety of volunteer opportunities through Project Mona’s House that provide a fun and meaningful way to complete volunteer hours!

Mid-Year Presentation &
FreeTHEM Capstone Project

Halfway through the program, students will create a presentation on a topic of their choosing to discuss with their fellow Ambassadors.

At the end of the year, all students will collaborate to create, organize, and run their own event designed to make a difference in the fight against trafficking.

Time Commitment & Key Dates:

The High School Ambassador Program will run for the length of one school year, from August to June.

 

All FreeThem Fighters must commit to 10 out of 11 mandatory meetings, most of which take place in the morning on the second Saturday of every month. They must also attend volunteer opportunities with Project Mona’s House and 2 excursions (such as visits to WNY cultural sites, seasonal activities, etc.)

 

High School Ambassador Program Participants MUST attend:

  • August 24th, 2024: Informational Meeting and Welcome Event

  • April 2025 (TBD depending on Buffalo Public School Schedule): FreeTHEM Fighters Week of Service

  • May/June 2025 (TBD depending on student planning): FreeTHEM Capstone Project Event

  • June 29th, 2025: Graduation Ceremony and Celebration Event

 

 

All FreeTHEM fighters will receive a stipend upon successful completion of the year.
